Want to know more about the Evolution of the UltraShip?
The UltraShip is the upgrade for the aging - but popular LS-30 scale.
Over the years we learned
that the pop-up letter holder/mail tube holder of the LS-30 tended to break
if overly stressed. We tried several times to reinforce it, but consumers
would always find a way to break it. So, we gave up on the pop up
cover and upgraded to stronger professional type attachments instead.
We designed a deluxe letter holder that can hold both small individual
letters and large padded envelopes. It has a telescoping design so it
can accommodate letters of every size. Next we designed a mail tube
holder that cradles mail tubes - rather then crushing them as pop up covers
often do. Our Tube and envelope attachments cradle items like a mother holding a baby, rather then
the damaging compression technique used by older pop-up covers.
Next we sought out to address
improvements requested by our customers. We were often asked to
add a HOLD feature to our scales. People complained that they would
put an oversized box on the scale and couldn't read the display. So,
we added a HOLD feature that holds the weight of an item on the display
(simply put the box on the scale and press HOLD, then you can remove the box
and see what the weight was on the display). This sounded like a
perfect solution - until we put some test units into the field.
We received constant complaints about the hold feature because it makes for
very uneasy weighing. First you must realize that in order to use the
hold feature you have to either have the scale on a table top or crouch down
on your knees to press the HOLD button. When you're dealing with 30lb
or 50lb
packages it's often not viable to have the scale on a table. Second the HOLD
feature is basically just a "rig", and it forces people to take extra
steps during weighing (a big complaint was that it slowed down the weighing
process). Basically we learned that just a HOLD feature was not enough for
our customers.
Thus we realized that the
only option was to make a remote display. Although it costs more
to produce, we realized that it was the only way to make this scale "The
Ultimate". Of course some times people don't want a remote display (they
tend to take up a lot of room on a desk, people can trip over the cord or
the cord can get tangled). So, we designed the world's first remote display that can also be locked back into place with the cord
fully stored. In short, the new Ultraship can be used just like
the LS-30, the display is fully locked into place and cord is
completely tucked away and hidden. But when you need it, you can unlock the
display and move it remotely away from the base of the scale up to 2ft.
This new invention is patented in the USA and EU.
Next we addressed another
common complaint by making an ADJUSTABLE AUTO OFF feature. Many
people complained that they didn't want their scale to turn off during use.
They wanted it to remain powered on all day. However an equal amount
of people want their scale to turn off automatically if they forget to turn
it off themselves. So, we added an adjustable auto off feature that
allows the consumer to decide if they want the auto-off feature or not.
The next improvement was in
the area of Modes. Our customers had specific needs, and we
needed to accommodate every postal / shipping company. Thus we made
the new Ultraship read in Pounds:Ounces, Pounds, Grams,
Kilograms. This is very important because in the USA some people need
their scale to display 15 1/4 pounds as "15lb : 4.0oz" and some people need
it to be shown as "15.250lb". Likewise for Kilograms some people
need 11.5 kilograms to be displayed as "11.500kg" and some people need it to
be shown as "11500g". *one common mistake
made by less-knowledgeable companies is to make their scales read in a
straight Ounce mode. We have never had a customer need 15 1/4 pounds
to be displayed as "244.0oz" - Please be careful and read the
fine print if you consider a non My Weigh scale.
The other improvements of the
Ultraship are all about accuracy and durability. The UltraShip is
a professional scale - featuring true digital auto calibration and
temperature compensation. You will notice that it is powered by a professional
2-part AC adaptor or C batteries. Why "C" batteries? Because
another common complaint of the LS was that it "ate" batteries too quickly.
With C batteries the Ultraship will run 5X longer on battery power then the
old LS-30. Also the Ultraship-30 reads in precise 0.1oz /
0.005lb / 2g / 0.002kg increments at lower weights (for letters and
envelopes) and 0.2oz / 0.010lb / 5g / 0.005kg increments at higher
weights (for boxes and packages). The LS-30 reads in less-precise
0.5oz increments at higher weights and other shipping scales simply don't
have the more precise lower range of the Ultraship. Note that USPS
standard for measuring letters is 0.1oz - so if your scale reads letters in
0.2oz you are NOT within the USPS letter standard.
The Ultraship is the
standard by which all other scales will now be judged. There is
simply no better scale for your home, office or small warehouse then the
UltraShip.
